Angel wings (in Polish faworki or chrust, chrusty, chruścik) are traditionally made in Poland during the Carnival and Fat Thursday. It’s a kind of crispy pastry shaped into thin twisted ribbons, deep-fried and sprinkled with icing sugar. Lots of recipes out there, I found this one on several websites. Enjoy!
Ingredients for 1-2 plates:
250 g flour
pinch of salt
1/2 cup sour cream 18%
1 tbsp vodka or 2 tbsp rum
3 egg yolks
icing sugar to sprinkle
Mix flour, salt, egg yolks, sour cream and alcohol. Knead well till the dough is smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with the cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Roll the pastry really thin and cut out rectangles (2-3 x 10-12 cm).
Every piece cut in the middle, parallel to the long edge and drag one of the ends through it.
Deep fry till golden, place on the paper towel to remove excess fat and sprinkle with icing sugar.
