Had to come up with something for a Saturday dinner and found this tart while looking through a BBC Good Food book called “101 cheap eats”. I was a bit sceptical about the taste but I was not disappointed. The result was creamy and dreamy ;). Totally worth trying!


250 g shortcrust pastry

250 g frozen peas (I used canned ones)

4 eggs

200 ml creme fraiche

85 g mature cheddar, grated

85 g slice of thick ham cut into chunks

Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan oven to 180°C). Roll out the pastry and use to line a deep 20-22 cm flan tin (I think it should be bigger). Lightly prick the base with a fork, cover with alu foil and bake blind for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, whizz the peas, eggs, creme fraiche and seasoning in a food processor until just blended (I used stab mixer). Fold in the cheese and ham.

Remove the foil from the pastry and lower the temperature to 180°C (fan oven to 160°C). Pour the filling into the pastry case. Bake for 35 minutes until the filling is is golden and just set.

Cool slightly before removing from the tin. Serve warm or cold.

Additional info: Made an experiment and used puff pastry instead of shortcrust pastry. It worked fine.
