I wanted to make a quick, white bread which is light-textured and suitable for a toaster. This milk bread was my choice. It comes from a book called “South African Cookbook”. Enjoy!
400 g flour
1 tsp salt
225 ml warm milk
7 g dried yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1 large egg, beaten
1 tbsp sunflower oil
Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl.
Stir 60 ml of the warm milk into the yeast with the sugar and allow to stand for 10 minutes until frothy.
Stir the activated yeast into the flour with the remaining milk, the egg and the oil.
Beat well for 4-5 minutes and shape the dough into a sausage. Place in a 1 litre greased loaf tin.
Cover with a sheet of greased plastic and leave in a warm place for the dough to rise (around 40 minutes).
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until crisp.
