Goulash is primarily a soup usually made of beef, onions, vegetables, spices and paprika powder. It’s a Hungarian dish which was traditionally made by cattle stockmen.  In Poland we serve goulash with buckwheat kasha. I got my recipe here. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

500 g beef (I mixed beef and pork)

2 onions

3 cloves of garlic

2 tbsp tomato paste

3 peppers (different colors)

1-2 chilli peppers

½ l of chicken or beef stock

2 tbsp sweet paprika

1 can of bean

cumin, salt, pepper, bay leaf

Chop onion and garlic and fry them on a spoon of butter till transluscent. Add chopped meat, paprika and fry well. Add tomato paste. When the meat will be cooked, add the rest of the spices. Pour in the chicken or beef stock and boil everything for about 40 minutes. Slice the pepper and add to the gulash. Cook for another 20 minutes till the pepper is soft. 10 minutes before the end add the beans. Check the taste and add some more spices if needed.

Serve with bread (or steamed bread rolls), potatoes, pulp, buckewheat kasha or rice.
